Round Hay Bale Decorating Competition New Addition for 2016
Open to Clubs/families/groups of friends . Book your pitch and hay bale & join in the fun on competition day. Bale decorating will start on Saturday 23rd July and be completed on Sunday 24th July by 12 Noon ready for the opening of The Scarecrow Festival. Entry Forms on Website €20 per entry €500 in prize money.
Another new addition for 2016 for All Dog Lovers:- Durrow Scarecrow Festival are delighted to have Dawn Greer joins us this year with Dog Agility. Agility is a great sport for people of all ages to try with their dogs. As long as the dog is fit and healthy then any dog can have a go. Dog Agility will be located in the Ranch
Arts & Crafts Exhibition & Sale (Community Centre. See brochure for opening hours)
An eclectic mix of art and crafts from Kilkenny, Laois, Tipperary and further afield including: Artist will be confirmed later.
Squalkabout, Abbey Folk, Kitchen Choir, Woodbine, Campion School of Music, Billy White, Fiúntas, Johnny Keegan, Dave Furey, Fuinneamh Community Drum, Spink Comhaltas will all preform at this year’s festival.
Food and Craft Fair
The Scarecrow Festival Food and Craft Fair has been a regular feature of the Durrow festivals, and is again this year. It will take place over 4 days. IWW Wrestling Warriors on Tour
On Mon 1st August you can expect to see future IWW Champion The Supermodel in action, defending his IWW International Championship. The IWW Champion has fought & defeated WWE & TNA Stars such as Eugene, Sheik Abdul Bashir, Tyson Kidd, Rene Dupree and Balls Mahoney & is aware whoever he faces on the day will be just as tough a challenge. Also appearing on the day will be International American Wrestlers such as Mandrake (who recently had a WWE try out), Captain Rooney, Salem Soultaker & Tattoo Charlie.
Children’s Festival Summer Camp
The Children’s Festival Summer Camp will take place in the Scarecrow Village from Monday 25th July – Friday 31st July from 10am -1pm and will provide children with a host of different activities over the week including: Zumba Dancing, Clay Modelling, Pottery, Kindermusic, Drama, Sports, Arts & Crafts and much more.
Cost is €50 per child. €95 for 2 children, or €140 for 3 children (must be from the same family). Places are limited and bookings will not be confirmed until the application form and full payment are received. For more information contact Marie on 087 98000900. Closing date for applications and payment is Monday 11th July. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL CHILDREN BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CAMP IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PRE-REGISTERED AND THEIR MONIES PAID. Woof and Wellie Walk
For the third year our ‘Woof and Wellie’ walk which will see owners and their dogs participate in a walk through the Castle Durrow grounds on Monday 25th July at 7.30pm. This event will include a fancy dress competition for dogs and owners. Registration is €5 per dog and includes a dog treat. Please see the registration form and terms and conditions for more information.
The Annual Photography Competition will see senior entrants compete for the Joe Brophy Memorial Cup and juvenile competitors (under 16) for the Durrow Development Forum Trophy.
Entry Fees: Senior €5, Juvenile (U16) €3. Print size for both competitions – Standard size to Maximum 12” x 10”. Entry Dates: Saturday 23rd July and Sunday 24th July from 2.30 -4.30pm both days in Durrow Community Centre. Maximum of 3 photos per entry. Photos do not have to be scarecrow related. Buy & Sell Fair
The Buy & Sell Fair will take place in the Scarecrow Village on Monday 25th July to Fri 30th July from 2pm – 9pm and will enable stall holders to sell unwanted gifts, bric a brac, books etc. Stalls cost €15 per day or €60 for the 5 days. A €30 Euro deposit is required at time of booking. Stalls can be reserved by contacting Emer on 087 9626350
The Treasure Hunt will be available for completion every day from Monday 25th July. This fun activity is suitable for both adults and children and will take you around Durrow Village to view the scarecrows on exhibit. So that you can thoroughly enjoy the experience, there is no time limit. Simply collect the Treasure Hunt Clue Sheet from the information desk at the Scarecrow Village Entrance and return it when you have completed the trail. All correct entries will be placed in a draw at the end of the festival with the winners a prize. Optional Fee is €5 per entry if you wish to be included in the winner’s prize.

The Durrow Scarecrow Festival now in its 7th year and hosting the All Ireland Scarecrow Championship offers something for everybody both young and old, it’s a quirky festival not to be missed! This festival has something for everyone and there are scarecrows everywhere in many different designs and themes, you will find more than one to make you laugh.
There is also plenty more on offer in Durrow during the festival including Scarecrow Summer Camp, Live Music, Craft Workshops, Food and Craft Fair, Adult, Teen and Children’s entertainment, Arts & Crafts Exhibition, Scarecrow Fairies, Scarecrow Mad Hatters Tea Party, IWW Wrestling, Woof & Wellie Walk, Teddy Bears Picnic, Large Bale Making Competition, Bouncy Castles, Dine ‘n Style, High Nellie Treasure Hunt, Duck Racing, Inflatable Foosball, Archery, Mice Racing and Scarecrow Treasure Hunt to name but a few.
The highlight of the festival is of course the All Ireland Scarecrow Championships in which hundreds of scarecrows from the four corners of Ireland will compete to win a prize and be crowned the 2016 All-Ireland Scarecrow Champion.
